Job Title: Retail Sales Associate

  • About the Role:
    • As a Retail Sales Associate at Maxwell’s House of Music, you’ll help customers find the instruments, gear, and accessories that fit their musical goals. You’ll provide knowledgeable, friendly service while maintaining an organized and welcoming store environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about music who enjoys connecting with people and sharing product expertise. You’ll play a key part in creating a positive in-store experience for musicians of all skill levels.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Greet and assist customers with product selection and recommendations
    • Maintain knowledge of musical instruments, gear, and accessories - specifically guitars, bass guitars, and sound gear/systems
    • Operate point-of-sale system and handle transactions accurately
    • Restock merchandise and keep the store clean and organized
    • Support inventory management and merchandising displays
    • Assist with Online Sales as needed (posting items online, shipping prep, etc.)
    • Assist with Education Dept as needed (signing students up in education platform)
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Strong customer service and communication skills
    • Basic knowledge of musical instruments or willingness to learn
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends (closed Sundays)
    • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous retail or sales experience
    • Experience playing a musical instrument
    • Familiarity with music gear or audio equipment

  • Job Title: Audio, Visual & Lighting Installation Technician
  • Location: Jeffersonville, IN
  • Employment Type: Full-time or Part-time (flexible)
  • About the Role:
    • As an Audio, Visual & Lighting Installation Technician at Maxwell’s House of Music, you’ll help design, sell, and install AV and lighting systems for small to mid-sized spaces such as churches, schools, and local venues (restaurants/bars/venues). You’ll work directly with clients to understand their needs, recommend practical solutions, and complete hands-on installations. This role is ideal for someone who is both technically capable and comfortable communicating with customers. You’ll play a key role in delivering reliable, easy-to-use systems that look and sound great—without the scale of large commercial or arena projects.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Identify and engage potential customers to drive sales opportunities
    • Consult with customers to assess AV and lighting needs and recommend right-sized solutions
    • Install and configure audio, video, and lighting systems for small to mid-sized projects
    • Run cables, mount equipment, and perform physical installations (including ladder work and lifting)
    • Test, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance
    • Explain system functionality and basic operation to clients
    • Support sales efforts by translating technical details into clear, customer-friendly terms
    • This is a customer facing position that requires excellent customer service & communication skills.
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Working knowledge of audio, video, and lighting systems
    • Ability to use tools and perform physical installation work safely
    • Comfort working on ladders and in active install environments
    • Strong communication and customer service skills
    • Ability to manage time, projects, and job site responsibilities
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous AV installation or live sound/lighting experience
    • Familiarity with signal flow, cabling, and system integration
    • Basic electrical or construction experience
    • Experience with mounting hardware, rigging, or structured wiring

Job Title: Luthier / Guitar Technician

Location: Jeffersonville, IN

Employment Type: Full-time or Part-time (flexible)

About the Role:

  • As a Luthier / Guitar Technician at Maxwell’s House of Music, you’ll provide expert repair, setup, and maintenance services for a wide range of stringed instruments. You’ll work directly with customers to diagnose issues, recommend solutions, and ensure instruments perform at their best. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented craftsperson with a passion for guitars and hands-on problem solving. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the shop’s reputation for quality service and musician trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform guitar setups, adjustments, and routine maintenance
  • Diagnose and repair structural and electronic issues
  • Restring instruments and perform fretwork as needed
  • Communicate repair needs, timelines, and estimates to customers
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workbench area
  • Assist with intake and tracking of repair orders

Required Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with guitar repair, setup, and maintenance
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electronic issues
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple repairs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal luthiery training or apprenticeship
  • Experience with a variety of stringed instruments (acoustic, electric, bass, etc.)
  • Soldering and electronics repair experience
  • Previous work in a music shop or repair setting
  • Experience as an Instrument Tech (band & orchestra instruments) is a plus!
